Patriots Hold Off Tidewater for Region 10 Home Win
MARTINSVILLE, VA -- Patrick & Henry Community College women's basketball defended its home court Saturday afternoon, earning a 50–41 victory over NJCAA Region 10 Division III opponent Tidewater Community College inside Stone Gym.
The Patriots relied on strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring to control the pace and secure the conference win over the Storm.
Amari Hairston (Martinsville, Va.) led P&HCC with 17 points, while Kayla Drumheller (Charlottesville, Va.) added 14 points in the paint. Nevaeh Haynes (Norfolk, Va.) finished with 6 points, and Mya Mewborn (Virginia Beach, Va.) contributed 5 points to round out the Patriots' scoring.
Tidewater was led by McKenzie Whitehead, who scored 18 points for the Storm.
Following the win, head coach Melvin Patterson praised his team's effort and mindset.
"I'm proud of the way our young ladies competed today. From start to finish, they played with heart, toughness, and togetherness," Patterson said. "We asked them to play hard, trust each other, and represent the PHAMiLY the right way — and they did exactly that. This win reflects their work, their belief, and their commitment to getting better every single day. We are still building, still growing, and still hungry. The message remains the same… we are stacking days because we know the work will pay off."
Patrick & Henry will now turn its attention to a two-game road trip to New York next weekend.
