Pittman’s 39 Points Power Patriots Past Appalachian Bible College
MOUNT HOPE, WV — Patrick & Henry Community College women's basketball turned in a dominant road performance on Saturday, defeating Appalachian Bible College 77–38 in a non-NJCAA matchup against the NCCAA Division II Lady Warriors.
Despite having just two practices over the past two weeks due to ice and snow, the Patriots showed no rust, using an aggressive offensive approach to fuel their defensive pressure and pull away early.
"It feels amazing to compete again after only two practices in the last couple of weeks," said Head Coach Melvin Patterson. "I told our ladies to let our offense be our defense and let the game come to us. We were settling early for shots, but once we bought into attacking the gaps, we found our rhythm and the momentum shifted in our favor."
Freshman guard Mikayla Pittman (Orlando, Fla.) delivered a standout performance, scoring 39 points while finding the basket in every quarter. Pittman totaled nine points in the first quarter, 11 in the second, 12 in the third, and seven in the fourth to lead all scorers.
Patrick & Henry set the tone early and steadily pulled away behind strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring throughout the lineup.
Freshman guard Amari Hairston (Martinsville, Va.) added 16 points, while sophomore guard Mya Mewborn (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with seven. Freshman guard/forward Nevaeh Haynes (Norfolk, Va.) scored six points, freshman guard/forward Mason Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) contributed two, and freshman center Sierra Bush (Virginia Beach, Va.) chipped in seven points in the victory.
Appalachian Bible College was led by Emma Serkosky, who scored 18 points for the Lady Warriors.
Patrick & Henry will return home Sunday to face Tidewater Community College in an NJCAA Region 10 Division III conference matchup, with tipoff scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
