Patriots Battle Nationally Ranked Sandhills in Region 10 Road Test

PINEHURST, N.C. -- The Patrick & Henry Community College men's basketball team went toe-to-toe with nationally ranked Sandhills Community College on Wednesday night, ultimately falling 74–69 in Region 10 action.

The game was tied at halftime, 37–37, before Sandhills edged the Patriots in the second half, 37–32, to secure the win.

Patrick & Henry was led by a complete performance from Jayse Barrett (G, So., Clayton, NC / Moravian Prep), who played all 40 minutes and finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocks.

Braelyn Gray (G, Fr., Winston-Salem, NC / Carlisle Academy) provided a big spark off the bench, scoring 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting while adding three steals and two assists. Nolan Prince (C, So., Rappahannock, VA / Rappahannock County HS) was efficient in the paint with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and four rebounds. Wes Gobble (G, Fr., Charlottesville, VA / Albemarle HS) chipped in seven points and eight rebounds, while Ramael Warren Jr. (G, Fr., Brooklyn, NY / Greater Vision Academy) added five points, four rebounds, and three assists.

Patrick & Henry shot 42.6% from the field, knocked down eight three-pointers, and converted 81.8% from the free-throw line.

Sandhills was led by Zack Noel, who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Kendall Smith and Titus Cunningham added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

"When you play a nationally ranked team like Sandhills, you have to execute the little things at a very high level, and tonight they made more of those winning plays than we did. This is a great opportunity for us to learn and grow. I'm pleased with the progress we're showing as a team, but we still have a lot of work to do to become the program we want to be."

The Patriots will return to action this weekend as they hit the road to compete in the Dennis Spruell Classic in Georgia. Patrick & Henry will face Oxford College of Emory University on Saturday before taking on Georgia Christian on Sunday.
