Patriots Walk It Off Against Guilford Tech in Region 10 Thriller

MARTINSVILLE, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots delivered late-game drama Wednesday afternoon at Hooker Field, earning a 7–6 walk-off victory over Guilford Technical Community College in Region 10 Division II West action.

With the game tied at six in the bottom of the ninth, freshman Nolan Grabiec (Greenville, SC) came through in the clutch, ripping a walk-off single to score the winning run and cap a back-and-forth battle. Grabiec powered the Patriots offensively, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs.

Guilford Tech struck early in the first inning with a three-run home run from Bryce Meachem, but the Patriots responded in the third. Redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) drove in a run with an infield single, freshman Jessen Copeland (Waxhaw, NC) added another on a fielder's choice, and Grabiec delivered an RBI single to even the score.

The Titans tied the game at four in the sixth inning before reclaiming the lead in the seventh on a two-run home run from Grantt.

Trailing 6–4 late, the Patriots answered again in the eighth inning. Grabiec delivered another RBI single before sophomore Bryson Redmond (Bluefield, WV) doubled to even the score at six and set the stage for the ninth-inning heroics.

On the mound, freshman Colby Rall (Wyoming, DE) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. The Patriots' bullpen combined for a strong effort after the first inning, with Sam Newman, Ryan Torres, Josh Dimpfel, Brody Owens, and DePriest each contributing key innings to keep P&H within striking distance.

Offensively, Patrick & Henry showed discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks in the game. Sophomores Brady Davenport (Little Mountain, SC), Austin MacAnnany (Mt. Pleasant, SC), and Evan Androvett (Dallas, TX) each worked two walks. MacAnnany also added two stolen bases as the Patriots totaled five stolen bases on the day.

With the win, Patrick & Henry improves to 17–17 overall and 15–13 in Region 10 Division II West play, positioning themselves in the middle of a competitive conference standings race that includes Catawba Valley Community College and Cleveland Community College at the top, with several teams closely grouped behind.

Patrick & Henry returns to Hooker Field this weekend to host Catawba Valley Community College for a key Region 10 series, with games set for Saturday at 4 PM and 7 PM, and Sunday at 12 PM.
