Patriots Unable to Hold Off Cleveland in Weekend Series

MARTINSVILLE, VA / SHELBY, NC -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots opened the weekend with a dominant shutout win but ultimately dropped the three-game Region 10 Division II West series to Cleveland Community College, falling in the final two contests.

Due to the race weekend in Martinsville, Cleveland was gracious in accommodating adjustments to the series schedule, allowing the teams to complete the three-game set.

Patrick & Henry set the tone early in Friday's opener at Hooker Field, erupting for eight runs in the second inning on the way to a 12–0 victory. The Patriots strung together timely hits throughout the inning, with sophomore Bryson Redmond (Bluefield, WV) driving in two runs and sophomore Austin MacAnnany (Mt. Pleasant, SC), freshman Josh Hall Jr. (Lynchburg, VA), sophomore Dylan Howell (Weston, FL), and sophomore Brady Davenport (Little Mountain, SC) each contributing RBI hits. Later in the game, freshman Jessen Copeland (Waxhaw, NC) delivered a three-run home run to highlight a four-run fourth inning.

Sophomore Toby Wilson (Asheville, NC) was sharp on the mound in the opener, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing six hits and striking out six. The Patriots totaled nine hits in the game, with Davenport leading the way with two.

Cleveland responded in game two with a high-powered offensive performance, defeating the Patriots 22–4. The Yetis broke the game open with a 15-run second inning, capitalizing on a series of hits, walks, and timely extra-base hits. Despite the deficit, P&H showed flashes offensively, with redshirt freshman Hunter DePriest (Alleghany, VA) tripling to score a run and Hall Jr. adding a two-run home run in the third inning. Davenport also added two hits in the contest.

The series shifted to Shelby, N.C. for Sunday's finale, where Cleveland secured the series with a 19–2 victory. The Yetis once again used a big inning to create separation, highlighted by multiple home runs and extra-base hits throughout the game. Cleveland finished with 18 hits, while P&H collected five. DePriest led the Patriots offensively with two hits, while Hall Jr. and DePriest each drove in a run.

Patrick & Henry will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 1, when they travel to face Guilford Technical Community College in another Region 10 Division II matchup.
