Patriots Complete Weekend Sweep of Louisburg, Improve to 6–0 in Region 10 Play

MARTINSVILLE, VA -- The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots closed out the weekend in commanding fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Louisburg College 10–4 at Hooker Field to complete a three-game Region 10 Division II sweep.

With the victory, the Patriots improve to 6–0 in Region 10 play and 8–4 overall on the season.

Louisburg struck first in the top of the first inning when Jace Dunn doubled to bring home a run and give the Hurricanes an early 1–0 lead.

P&HCC answered and gradually took control of the contest. In the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore outfielder Austin MacAnanny (So., Mt. Pleasant, SC) doubled down the left field line, and the Patriots added another run on a passed ball to regain the lead.

Louisburg briefly tied the game at 2–2 in the top of the sixth on a single by Clifton Olmedo, but the Patriots responded immediately.

Freshman infielder Josh Hall, Jr. (Fr., Lynchburg, VA) delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon in the bottom of the sixth, launching a home run to right field to give P&HCC a 5–2 advantage.

The Patriots broke the game open in the bottom of the eighth, scoring five runs to put the contest out of reach. MacAnanny singled to drive in a run, Bryson Redmond (So., Bluefield, WV) and Dylan Howell (So., Weston, FL) each drew bases-loaded walks to force in runs, and Hunter DePriest (RS-Fr., Alleghany, VA) added an RBI single to cap the rally.

On the mound, sophomore Toby Wilson (So., Asheville, NC) turned in a strong start, allowing five hits and two runs over six innings while striking out five and walking three.

The Patriots' bullpen remained sharp as Wyatt Allen (Fr., Colonial Heights, VA), Braedy Peck (RS-Fr., Ashburn, VA), and Colby Rall (Fr., Wyoming, DE) each tossed scoreless innings in relief to secure the win.

Offensively, P&HCC collected nine hits and demonstrated patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks as a team. MacAnanny led the way with three hits in four at-bats, while Hall Jr. finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. DePriest added two hits, and freshman infielder Jessen Copeland (Fr., Waxhaw, NC) reached base three times via walk.

The Patriots also stole three bases and turned two double plays defensively.

Head Coach Mason Gary praised his team's consistency and approach throughout the weekend.

"I'm proud of the way our guys competed all three games. We didn't panic when they answered, and we kept putting together quality at-bats. Our pitching staff did a great job of attacking the zone, and when we had the opportunity to break it open late, we capitalized. That's the kind of complete effort we're looking for in conference play."
