Cross Country Opens 2025 Season with Strong Scrimmage Performance
MARTINSVILLE, VA — The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots Cross Country team opened their 2025 campaign this past Saturday with a competitive scrimmage against Ferrum College and former P&HCC Head Coach Andre Kidd at the Smith River Sports Complex in the Track the Future 5K.
The Patriots delivered an impressive early-season showing, placing three runners in the top five. Alex Gomez claimed the overall win with a time of 17:35, followed closely by Moises Ciseneros in second at 17:40, while Jaime Lopez secured fourth in 18:40.
In the team standings, P&HCC earned the victory with a low score of 22 points, while Ferrum finished with 33 points. The performance reflects a promising start for the Patriots as they aim to build on their #9 national ranking in the 2025 NJCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
"This was a great way to kick off the season," said Head Coach Kevin Underwood. "Our guys competed hard, pushed each other, and set the tone for what we want to accomplish this year. To come away with the team win and strong individual results shows we're moving in the right direction."
The Patriots will return to action at the Joe LaRocco Open 5K at Greenhill Park in Salem, Virginia.
